Education & Credentials

  • Ph.D. in Finance with a support area in econometrics, Florida State University
  • BBA in Finance, University of North Florida

Stephan Shipe is the founder and CEO of Scholar Financial Advising, one of the largest hourly financial advisory firms in the U.S. He launched the firm in 2018 to help clients navigate complex financial decisions with deeply customized, fiduciary advice. Today, the firm advises hundreds of clients on more than $1 billion in assets across 39 states.

Stephan brings a wide range of experience working with corporate executives, business owners, and ultra-high-net-worth families. His planning often involves financial risk analysis, traditional and alternative investments, concentrated stock positions in public or private companies, and tax-efficient wealth management and transfer strategies.

While the numbers matter, Stephan believes the most rewarding part of a strong advisory relationship is helping clients manage the emotional and psychological aspects of money, investing, and generational wealth.

Stephan holds a Ph.D. in Finance with a support area in econometrics from Florida State University. He is also a CFA Charterholder and a CFP® Professional. His research on investor behavior, executive compensation, and investor protection has led to collaborations with regulators on investment advisor fee disclosure laws, as well as regular media contributions. In addition to his advisory work, Stephan has taught finance courses at Wake Forest University, the University of New Hampshire, and Florida State University.

Outside of work, he enjoys spending time outdoors with his family, coaching Little League, and running.
